Product description:

Red Yeast Rice is rice fermented with the strain called Monascus purpureus. Monascus species have been used as food and medicines for more than 1000 years. The use of red yeast rice was first documented in the Tang dynasty in 800 AD. The manufacturer and the medicinal properties of red yeast rice have been extensively described in the ancient Chinese pharmacopoeia Ben Cao Gang Mu, published during Ming dynasty.

Red yeast rice is called Hong Qu,” Hon-chi,” Anka,” or Ang-ak” in China. Beni koji” and Red koji” are used as name of red yeast rice in Japan. In western countries, red yeast rice is mainly used for their cholesterol-lowering effects because of the presence of Monacolin K.
